In our July issue, we asked you to draw a picture of the ‘world's craziest summer holiday’ and share it with us. Our ed’s pick was this fantastic drawing by Cara Pang, aged 9.

Thank you to everyone who entered – you came up with so many amazing ideas!

STORY TIME

The Day the School Rules Disappeared

On the first day back after the summer holidays, something strange happened at Wing Yan’s school. The teacher walked in, looked at the whiteboard… and blinked.

The words were gone. No rules. No timetable. No instructions. Just a blank board and a tiny note that said: ‘Good luck’.

At first, everyone was quiet. Then Wing Yan raised her hand. “Do we… do anything?” she asked.

“Apparently we decide,” said the teacher.

So they did. Maths became a game show where every correct answer earned points and applause. Storytime happened under the desks with torches. Lunch was moved to ‘whenever-you’re-hungry o’clock’. Every lesson included five minutes of dancing. And there was no Mandarin class.

School was strangely fun. But a bit too strange for Wing Yan and her friends.

By the end of the day, the teacher picked up a marker and wrote one rule on the whiteboard: ‘We probably need a few rules.’ Everyone agreed.
