LAST MONTH’S WINNER

Last month we asked you to draw a picture of your mum for Mother’s Day and share it with us. Our favourite was this drawing by Jane Chu, aged 7. Jane wrote us this about her mum...

“My mum is kind and funny and she always gives me cuddles. We like baking together and going to the park. I love my mum because she makes me smile every day.”

Lucy and the Squeaky Recorder

Lucy had a recorder recital coming soon… but she did NOT want to practise. “It sounds like a parrot sneezing!” she groaned.

Every afternoon, Lucy tried to hide her recorder. She tucked it under the sofa, behind the cushions, and once even inside the cereal cupboard. But somehow, her mum always found it. “Time to practise!” Mum said.

“SQWEEEEAK! TOOT! HONK!” went the recorder. The family dog barked. Even the baby covered his ears. Lucy burst out laughing. “This is the worst instrument EVER!”

But after a few more squeaky tries, something surprising happened. Lucy played three notes perfectly. “TOOT TOOT TOOOOT!”

“Hey!” said Lucy. “That actually sounded good!”

Soon she was marching around the living room playing silly songs and by recital day, she wasn’t scared at all. Well… maybe just a tiny squeak.
