Story Time: The Great Kart Race

Elena could hardly sit still. Today was the HLG Kart Race, and she was about to zoom down a giant ramp on a high-speed racing kart!

At Discovery Bay Road, the track was buzzing with excited children. Elena pulled on her helmet, checked her trainers and climbed into her kart. At the top of the ramp, she looked down at the winding track below. It suddenly seemed much steeper than she remembered!

“Ready, steady, GO!” shouted the race official.

Elena pushed off and whooshed down the ramp. The wind tickled her cheeks as she steered carefully towards the finish line. Another racer was catching up, but Elena kept her eyes on the track and her hands firmly on the steering wheel.

With one final push, she crossed the finish line. She hadn’t come first, but she was grinning from ear to ear.

“You were brilliant!” cheered her new friend, who had raced beside her. Elena smiled. She’d discovered that being brave, trying your best and cheering for others can be just as much fun as winning a trophy.

MAKE IT!

PEBBLES’ CRAFT PICK

This month, let’s make a HOT-AIR BALLOON!

What to do:

  1. Cut out two large balloon shapes from coloured paper.

  2. Fold each shape in half, then glue the two

halves together to create a 3D balloon.

  3. Cut out a small rectangle of paper and fold it to make a basket.

  4. Attach two short pieces of string between the balloon and the basket.

  5. Decorate your balloon with stripes, spots or stars - and imagine you’re floating high above DB!

WHICH WAY TO THE FINISH LINE?
