World Cleanup Day! September 20!
Help clean a DB beachĀ
JOIN DBāS WORLD CLEANUP DAY EVENT
Our main beach, Tai Pak Wan, is cleaned once a day by DB City Management contractors, but the other beaches such as Sam Pak Wan and Nim Shue Wan are not part of DB so they do not get the same treatment. Government contractors clean maybe once or twice a week, or less. Volunteers sometimes clean the beaches and, together with Plastic Free Seas, DB Green has been hosting a monthly beach cleanup for residents since 2007 when DB Green was founded. Sign up for their World Cleanup Day event at Sam Pak Wan by emailing info@plasticfreeseas.org.
ORGANISE YOUR OWN BEACH CLEAN-UP
1. Check the Clean Shorelines website to ensure that no one else is cleaning the beach around the time you are planning. Inform Clean Shorelines of your cleanup.
2. Check the HK Observatory website for the tide level in your location. Look for tides of 1.5m or less and going out.
3. Bring used courier or shopping bags to collect rubbish in, or garbage bags.
4. Bring reusable gloves (e.g. garden gloves), closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen and bug spray, and a full reusable water bottle.
5. Take your full rubbish bags to the closest rubbish bins, or ask the FEHD to collect your bags from the beach, leaving them well above the highest tide line.
6. If you find clean, good condition plastic water or soda bottles, or drink cans, recycle them in the closest recycling bins.
START SMALL! MAKE A BIG IMPACT!
Together, our choices create a cleaner, greener future for everyone!
