Due to an MTR train accident, the train service between Central and Admiralty on the Tsuen Wan Line will be suspended all day.
The accident occurred when two MTR trains collided at the Central MTR station at 2:57am this morning during a test run. The crash resulted in one of the trains being derailed which consequently damaged the undercarriage. It is this damage that has lead to the suspension of service
According to Adi Lau, MTR Operations Director, a new signalling system was being tested. This accident will delay future trial tests, but the new system is guaranteed to only be implemented once passing all of the safety tests. Trials are to be postponed until the cause of the accident is uncovered.
The public is encouraged to take the Island Line instead to travel between Admiralty and Central stations. The MTR Corporation will ensure that staff will be present within the Central station to help assist commuters.
The police reports that the two drivers were sent to Queen Mary Hospital. The crash resulted in a leg injury, and the other driver reported health concerns after inhaling smoke.
