Temperatures are set to drop this coming weekend, possibly triggering the first cold weather warning of winter 2017/ 18.
The Hong Kong Observatory is expecting temperatures to fall to 13 degrees Celsius on Saturday and a low of 11 degrees Celsius on Monday morning, with maximum daytime temperatures of 16 and 17 degrees respectively.
The change in outlook is due to a cold front currently moving towards southern China combined with a winter monsoon.
Last year, the first cold weather warning was issued on December 27, with the subsequent lowest minimum air temperature recorded at 11.5 degrees Celsius on December 28.
When a cold weather warning is issued, the Observatory advises the general public to avoid prolonged exposure to wintry winds and ensure adequate indoor ventilation. For further advice, head to www.hko.gov.hk/wservice/warning/coldhot.htm.
