Local Discovery Bay security guard Mr Ho Chun Sing was awarded the Best Citizen Award by the Hong Kong Police Force last month for helping catch a suspect charged with ‘going equipped for stealing’ at La Serene.

The incident took place one evening in October 2017 when the suspect was found loitering around the slope and snooping around the backyard of La Serene Block 5.

The suspect was approached by Mr Ho, the local security guard on duty but walked away in an attempt to flee the village along Vista Avenue towards Discovery Bay Road.

Mr Ho immediately reported the case to the DB Services Management Ltd security team, who then informed local police. He continued to follow the suspect at a safe distance until he was eventually intercepted by the security team and local police.

The suspect underwent a body search, during which tools were found in his possession.

The suspect was sentenced to six months imprisonment for ‘going equipped for stealing’, which is when a person, while not at the place of their residence, is equipped with an article for the purpose of burglary, theft or cheating.

Mr Ho was awarded the Best Citizen Award for his vigilance and professionalism. Congratulations to Mr Ho for his duty in protecting the community!
