Around DB has received an email from a concerned resident regarding dogs and hygiene on Tai Pak Wan beach in DB.
The resident is worried that dogs are being allowed to urinate on the beach where children play.
“Bigger than the health issue resulting from the visible rubbish on the beach, is the health issue caused by the invisible danger,” the email states. “Our children are playing where the dogs urinate. I have witnessed adults show blatant contempt when confronted by the guards… who are shunned and told to leave them in peace.
“I have witnessed early morning walks with urinating dogs on the beach! The signs say ‘no dogs’ which means 24 hours. I assume the beach is not intended to be a dogs’ urinal and that the rules are there to protect the children.”

Don’t let one reader or one incident spoil it for everyone of us responsible dog owners. DB is already so limited with space for dogs. You certainly did not react to my email a year or so ago about irresponsible dog walkers not picking up piles of defacation.
Many thanks for your comment. We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t receive a reply to your email. If you have any concerns or topics that you would like to share with us, please feel free to email us at [email protected] and our team will get back to you ASAP.
I think that the dog incident is a very fair call. I do not want children or even adults who decide to go for a beach walk at night to have the thought that they could potentially be stepping in dog urination. I think we enforce this no dog rule on the beach with big consequences if spotted. I would also encourage witnesses who see this happen to report to a nearby security guard.
I understand and share the ideaof not having to play or lie on a beach which serves as a dog toilet. on the other hand, it may come as a surprise to most non dog owners that dogs do not urinate and defecate all the time, and that when a dog walks along the beach, it does not mean the dog does any of its business on the beach. Responsible dog owners will and can ensure that their dogs pee and poo in ok places, before going onto any beach. Many dogs, mine included, even are trained to do their bussiness on command.
