Become a Brownie leader in Discovery Bay

Posted in : News on by : Around DB , , , Comments: 0

The English-speaking Bauhinia Division of The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association (HKGGA) is looking for volunteers to help form a new community-based Brownie unit for girls aged seven to 10 in Discovery Bay.

A number of girls and parents in DB are interested in forming a group, however at least four female adult leaders are required in order for one to set up.

The Division is therefore calling for ladies who would like to be involved to get in touch to find out more. All that is needed is enthusiasm and an interest in working with youth, and of course a little time too!

Training for the role includes a 16-hour basic training course at the HKGGA Headquarters in Jordan, either split over a couple of Saturdays, four midweek evenings or a combination of both.

Brownie meetings would then typically run once a week during school term time, with each one lasting around 1.5 to 2 hours. The role can also include occasional weekend outings and sleepovers if leaders are available.

Speaking to Around DB, Diana Lancaster of the HKGGA said, “There really is as much to be gained at a personal level of development for the leaders as there is for the girls when they attend Brownies. There is always a shortage of leaders; never a shortage of girls around.” Diana is hoping that enough ladies will come forward and attend the training course, which the Division hopes to run in March.
