Regular readers of Life on Lantau and The Best of Lantau will no doubt already be aware of Tung Chung resident May James’ amazing photography skills. Now, May has very deservedly received recognition for her unique photographic style in a list of top Hong Kong street photographers by TimeOut magazine.
The article – Nine stunning street photographs of Hong Kong you need to see – features a captivating set of images, highlighting the diversity of the city.
May’s featured photo, entitled Sounds of Silence, is part of her Street Scene (HK) collection. Many of the photos in the collection, Sounds of Silence included, are shot in black and white, and make clever use of shadow and light to highlight the moments that make Hong Kong so unique.
On her website – www.siusingallery.com – May writes: “It is difficult to stop, look and appreciate what’s around us. A moment is all too easily ignored and histories could be forgotten.” This sentiment is clearly at the core of May’s street photography collection, which has a strong focus on Hong Kong’s people and their day-to-day lives.
