Chris Maden stumbled into Hong Kong ten years to the day before its reversion to China and fell in love with the city. He has spent his adult life in the town, contributes to the Hong Kong Review of books, and was chair of the local writers’ circle as this, his first novel, went to press. When not writing, he mentors start – ups (which is a polite way of saying that he tries to stop them making the many mistakes he made), or hikes, sailes or goest on long lunches.

His new book is Prices’s Price The Unmaking of an Immaculate Scoundrel

Stanley Prince has dreamt since childhood of exploring the world, when the army posts him to Hong Kong in the 1960s, this officer, scoundrel and rake falls for the glamour, the girsl and the gung-ho attitude. Swept along and seduced by this free-wheeling city, he is sucked into a delightful vortex of beer, women and bribes. His dreams remain ever-present but out of reach. Until, that is, he falls for a young lady who could be his redemption – or his remesis.

A fun and stylish tale of the life and loves of an expat struggling to discover if all really is fair in love, war and business in the Hong Kong of the seventies and eighties“. – Lawrence Gray, Screenwriter, Director and Novelist.
