    To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to you as a valued member of Discovery Bay Recreation Club (DBRC) and Club Siena in Discovery Bay. My name is Oleg Filchagin, and my membership number is S000505-031.

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude for the wonderful facilities you provide. The cleanliness and quality are truly commendable, and my family and I thoroughly enjoy utilizing them. Personally, I make use of your facilities both in the morning and evening for my workouts, and we also have a great time playing tennis at your club.

However, there is an important matter that requires your immediate attention in order to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all esteemed members.

I have concerns regarding the liquid provided in the spray bottle for cleaning gym equipment such as bars and workout machines. I am specifically referring to the pink/orange liquid in the spray bottle, not the alcohol bottle in the room.

It has come to our attention that some club members are not using the spray responsibly and causing discomfort by spraying it around others instead of using a tissue for cleaning. Additionally, some members are unnecessarily spraying large areas.

Recently, while I was doing my abdominal exercises, a person sprayed the bench next to me while I was on the floor. As a result, small drops from the spray entered the air and came into contact with my eyes and lips. This led to discomfort in breathing and itching in my eyes. This situation consistently occurs when someone operates a machine nearby and sprays around.

Please note that I am not referring to the cleaning staff who cleans the room with this product. I am referring to the members of the club who clean up after themselves. There is no doubt that members are supposed to leave clean benches behind and behave responsibly towards other members.

However, my concern is more about the liquid inside the spray bottle:

What are the potential effects on humans when unintentionally inhaling airborne substances while spraying?
Does this substance contain any allergenic elements?

Can it potentially lead to cancer or have adverse effects on individuals with pre-existing health conditions?

Once again, I am not discussing the utilization of these substances by professional cleaners for the purpose of cleaning floors and equipment. Instead, I am referring to individuals who continuously employ them in the gym while working out.

Speaking in response to the raised question:
Does the spray mechanism have to be designed as a spray?
Why can’t it be a push bottle that dispenses the liquid onto a tissue?

Why does it have to be a heavy chemical substance instead of something like alcohol, which could potentially harm those who suffer from allergies?

I have raised this concern with your staff on the floor and with the supervisor, but I haven’t received any answers regarding the kind of liquid it is. All I got was a reply that it’s something to clean the floor, and the bottle says it’s “safe for families”- This is a marketing statement and doesn’t mean it can be consistently used without any concerns.

After expressing my concerns to the supervisor at Siena Club regarding the absence of alcohol-based sprays, I was left feeling frustrated by their response. They explained that the use of alcohol could potentially cause damage to the equipment. However, when I inquired about the potential harm it might pose to gym users, the individual admitted to a lack of expertise in addressing such matters and uncertainty about the severity of the issue regarding this specific liquid.

For the bottle, we highly recommend considering a push-out design instead of the current spray mechanism, especially if you desire to preserve the non-alcoholic fragrance. This modification will help maintain the intended scent while enhancing user experience.

As valued members of your club, our topmost concern is the safety of the liquid. It is crucial to us that the liquid not only meets safety standards but also poses no harm when used in close proximity. To ensure this, we suggest conducting laboratory testing for harmlessness. Implementing these proposed improvements will enhance our understanding of the matter and improve overall clarity.
