Raw sewage has been leaking into Hong Kong waters due to damaged facilities following Severe Typhoon Mangkhut last weekend.

Facilities in Hong Kong Island and Sai Kung have been affected with reports stating that repairs could take up to three weeks and a few months for the latter.

According to the Environmental Protection Department, “For health reasons, the public are advised to avoid recreational activities, angling or seawater abstraction in the potentially affected sea or waterfront areas at Port Shelter near Sai Kung Sewage Treatment Works and Deep Water Bay and Shek O in Southern District of Hong Kong.”

Kiu Tsui Beach, Trio Beach, Hap Mun Bay Beach, Deep Water Bay Beach and Shek O Beach have been closed since Monday.
