The cargo plane that passed low over Tiger’s Head last month missed the peak by just 204 metres (670 feet), according to a preliminary report issued yesterday by the Civil Aviation Department (CAD).

The aircraft, operated by Atlas Air, deviated from its flight path immediately after take-off on the evening of September 24, flying over Tiger’s Head and then Discovery Bay, with residents describing an incredible sound as it passed overhead.

According to info.gov.hk, a spokesperson for the CAD said that the preliminary report contains information as determined up to the time of issue and must be regarded as tentative.

They went on to say, “The investigation team will continue with the investigation and will conduct more in-depth analysis of the relevant data and information collected in order to determine the circumstances and causes leading to the serious incident.”
