Pen’n Paper to close

Posted in : News on by : Around DB Comments: 2

After 21 years in business, Sophia Lau-Duehring has decided to close her stationary shop, Pen’n Paper. Sophia has lived in DB since 1986, when she met her then boyfriend and now husband of 31 years. She opened the the store in August 1998 as she thought it was a practical business and saw the closing of the previous former stationery shop as an opportunity.

As a long-time business owner in DB, Sophia has seen many other businesses come in and go, but she has learned over the years how important it is–in any business–to “always treat your staff well and maintain goodwill. And always smile, no matter how difficult the customer,” advises Sophia.

Although she has been in the same shop space, and her bestsellers–such as art supplies and greeting cards–have remained the same over the years, she has enjoyed seeing the DB community change and grow right before her eyes. “I will miss the hustle and bustle in the shop, meeting all walks of life everyday,” Sophia says of closing her store. “I will always remember seeing the mischievous boys and girls growing up, becoming ladies and gentlemen–and some even becoming parents themselves! It was a very rewarding feeling when those who had left DB came back to the shop to visit.”

Sophia plans to enjoy a well-deserved holiday after the store closes in July.
