A Dragonair flight carrying almost 300 passengers was hit by a service vehicle on the tarmac of the Hong Kong International Airport yesterday.

The incident took place at around 4pm as Penang-bound KA691 was taxiing to the runway for take-off.

The footage of the collision sees the van initially head towards the body of the plane, but make a swift right, damaging the A330-200’s left engine. Damage to the van’s roof caused the driver to be trapped inside. Once freed by firefighters, the driver was taken to North Lantau Hospital for head injuries but remained conscious.

Originally scheduled to depart at 3:30pm, the flight left Hong Kong at 7:44pm. Passengers of the flight were stuck inside the plane for approximately an hour before evacuating back to the terminal. According to a passenger, the airline provided a HK$70 coupon for those affected.

The Civil Aviation Department has yet to confirm if a formal investigation is to be launched.
