A police officer accidentally discharged his gun at Hong Kong International Airport police station yesterday, but no one was injured when the gun went off.
The South China Morning Post reported the officer was from the elite airport security unit.
An investigation is now underway into whether the officer failed to follow proper procedures in handling the Glock 17.
The incident took place at about 8.25am when the officer was loading his gun in a room in the police station on No 8 Catering Road West, Lantau Island.
A spokesman said the force had stringent regulations about the use and arrangement of weapons and that any violations would be dealt with seriously.
In January last year, a constable also from the airport security unit accidentally discharged his gun at the airport police station. There was no injury.
