Talented young ballet dancers needed for HK play

Talented children are needed for the upcoming production of Pinocchio in Hong Kong. You have until July 13 to submit your application.

The Hong Kong Ballet will stage a brand new production of Pinocchio from 28th August – 6th September 2015 at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Created by Swedish Choreographer Pär Isberg, this best known fairy tale will be retold through ballet. Little Pinocchio who is made from a piece of wood by a kind old man, Geppetto, who loves Pinocchio as his own son. But naughty Pinocchio keeps on running into trouble. In his exciting adventure he meets a number of creatures, first the fox and the cat, two greedy crooks, then his best schoolmate, the naughtiest boy in class, as well as mice and sea creatures.

Talented young people are invited to audition for the roles of Black Mice, White Mice, Starfish and Crabs in this production – successful applicants will have the chance to share the stage with their Company dancers!

The audition will be held on 25th July 2015 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, details are as follows:

Date: Saturday, 25th July 2015
Time: Registration: 2:00pm (GR3 Rehearsal Studio)
Audition: 3:00pm – 6:00pm (GR2 Rehearsal Studio)
Venue: 8/F, Backstage, Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Please see the requirements listed below:

  • Be a current ballet student (boy or girl) between 7 and 13 years old (on 28th August 2015)
  • Measure between 120cm and 150cm in height
  • Be able to demonstrate natural acting (miming) talent and musicality
  • Be able to learn quickly
  • Basic ballet training and stage charisma
  • Having dance experience would be an advantage
  • Be able to attend ALL rehearsal and performance sessions

Application guidelines:

  • Deadline for submission of application: 5pm, Monday 13th July 2015
  • Audition capacity: 200 candidates in total. Qualified registrants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Applications via email ([email protected]) ONLY. Each application email should register ONLY one candidate.
  • Only individual applications will be accepted.
  • You will receive an auto-reply upon submission of application. Please note that this acknowledgement does not guarantee a place at the audition.
  • Late submissions or incomplete registration forms will not be processed under any circumstances.
  • You risk losing your place at the audition if you repeatedly submit applications for the same candidate.
  • The Hong Kong Ballet’s decision on all matters relating to the audition is final.

Announcement of invitation to audition:

  • A list of those invited to audition will be announced on Wednesday 15th July 2015.

Announcement of audition result:

  • The applicants who have been selected to participate in the production will receive an individual e-mail notification byTuesday 28th July 2015.
