HK’s Education Bureau has announced that 3,490 new primary school places and 780 new secondary school places will soon be available. Anne Murphy reports.

American School Hong Kong (ASHK)
A non-profit, non-denominational school, American School Hong Kong (ASHK) by Esol Education will offer an accredited American education delivered by North American teachers.
Esol Education specialises in the establishment and management of high quality international schools around the Middle East and Mediterranean. Headquartered in Dubai, UAE, Esol Education currently serves over 10,000 students, operating a total of nine international schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Nicosia, and Aley.
The new school will be located in Tai Po in the New Territories will open in August 2016 – and will offer a holistic approach to education and promote a strong STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programme..The school will initially open for Kindergarten through Grade 6, basing its curriculum on the US Common Core. ASHK will then evolve to a full-scale K-12 school, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) and the US High School Diploma and Advanced Placement options.
Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong will be the second international school to be established by Shrewsbury School UK and will build further on their long-term successful school in Bangkok. Its first sister school, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, was opened in 2003. The school now has 1,600 pupils and is regarded as one of the leading schools of its type in Thailand.
The new school in Hong Kong will open in Tseung Kwan O (Siu Chik Sha) district and will be a co-educational Primary School capable of accommodating more than 850 international students aged 5 to 11 years. It will offer the National Curriculum for England and will open in August 2018.
Shrewsbury School was founded by Royal Charter in 1552. Over the centuries it has grown in size and reputation and is now ranked amongst the leading co-educational boarding schools in the United Kingdom.
Malvern College Hong Kong (“MCHK”) will be located in Tai Po in close proximity to the Hong Kong Science Park, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Institute of Education. This will be Malvern College’s fourth planned international school and comes after the successful launch of Malvern College Qingdao in 2012. Malvern College Chengdu will open in September 2015 and Malvern College Egypt in September 2016.
The school will open in September 2018, and will initially offer 380 primary places, rising to a capacity of 960 places once full. The school will offer an International Baccalaureate curriculum and will be open to children aged 6-12 years old. Placing equal emphasis on the personal development of students, MCHK will offer a wide range of co-curricular activities as well as a house system for all students.
MCHK will launch a scholarship programme for students from socially underprivileged and ethnic minority backgrounds with outstanding academic performance.
