Exciting news for mountain bikers! A new expansion of the Mountain Bike Trails (MBTs) is on the books for South Lantau.

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) this month signed a $7.1 million deal with Jacobs China for detailed design and construction supervision of the trail. The work is expected to take around 33 months to complete.

The new 6.3km stretch will link the Mui Wo trailhead to a 4.5 hectare training ground near Lai Chi Yuen Tsuen. A new bikers gathering place is also planned for Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road.

The project will be welcome news to local advocacy groups, who have been calling for the government to open more legal trails in the area and to bring Hong Kong’s MBTs up to international standards.

The aim of the development is to enhance the recreational and educational values of Lantau’s country parks so that more people can enjoy mountain biking in the area.
