In the afternoon of February 14, Lantau-based Migrants In Action launched the first of six fortnightly fitness activities at Movement Improvement, Discovery Bay North Plaza.
The session began with an hour of Zumba, led by Arlyn Fermin. Participants then took part in meditation exercises with Myriam Bartu. The whole session cost $20 per head.
The next activity will take place on February 28, followed by meet-ups on March 13 & 27, and April 10 & 24. More volunteers will take part in the following sessions. The last Sunday of March involves a free hike to Tiger’s Head and Mui Wo.
Migrants In Action is a voluntary group dedicated to organising and promoting free and affordable events and services, as well as other opportunities and matters of interest to migrants living on Lantau.
While migrant workers tend to congregate at Hong Kong Island on days off, the long commute is relatively expensive. The group hopes to provide better access to services and events within Lantau’s communities.
Formally established in October 2015, Migrants In Action has helped spur participation in financial literacy training, a beach clean-up and stress management workshop, and a number of park workouts.
