Ark Eden Foundation will be hosting the Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC), a 12 day, 72 hour course on March 25 to April 5, 2016.

The course offers content in real, alternative and sustainable design planning, abundant gardening, alternative building, generating renewable energy, creating authentic relationships and community, learning new practical hands-on skills and much more. Participants considering a new career in sustainable design, looking to incorporate these new skills in an existing job or are simply curious about sustainable alternatives to solutions on how communities can live and thrive with the natural environment will greatly benefit from this course.

The PDC will be led by Daniel Tohill and Trish Allen. Hailing from New Zealand, both are well known in the permaculture community. Daniel has more than 20 years of experience as a landscape/permaculture designer, master planner, educator and environmental consultant, devoted to doing aid work around the world. Trish, along with her late husband Joe Polaischer, founded the iconic, award-winning Rainbow Valley Farm in New Zealand in 1988 on permaculture principles and ethics.

“We wholeheartedly invite you to join us in this course that will serve in building communities, and equip us with skills in helping to design a creative and sustainable way of interacting with our natural world and its resources,” says Jasmine Nunns, Ark Eden Programme Manager. “As we move into a place and time where every type of organisation is forced to look at its sustainability practices, having a member of your team trained in permaculture could be the perfect answer in creating ethical businesses and causes.”

Ark Eden is located in a lush, secluded valley in Mui Wo, Lantau Island which boasts a huge amount of biodiversity, as a direct result of years of planting native trees. Its permaculture demonstration site was formerly one of Lantau’s most productive rice and vegetable producing valleys up until the 1960’s, making it the perfect site to demonstrate a sustainable, zero waste life style, where participants are in direct contact with the natural, wild environment to gain a sense of the value it brings.

“Our location is beautiful – tucked away in our secluded garden of eden, it’s hard to believe we are in Hong Kong. Our classroom will be held outside under the trees, and our teachers are hugely experienced, knowledgeable and personable. Our curriculum will include a lot of practical work – such as building a compost toilet, a tipi, and a pizza oven. We will have days and evenings where family, friends, dogs can join and nights where we have guest speakers, outdoor movie screenings, campfires, family camps, parties, a beach party, an overnight site visit, music and a lot more,” she says.
