Last call for Lantau conservation plan

Posted in : News on by : Around DB Comments: 0

Non-profit organization Designing Hong Kong is urging the public to take action for true sustainable development in Lantau Island.

The window for comment on the Lantau Development Advisory Committee’s development plans, which includes massive reclamation around the island, particularly with the proposed East Lantau Metropolis, ends on Saturday, April 30.

To this end, Designing Hong Kong as well as several other green organisations launched a petition demanding the government take measures toward effective conservation of Lantau Island’s environment.

Critics and detractors argue that rampant and unbridled development will lead to irreversible social and environmental repercussions for Lantau. With public consultation closing on April 30, many fear that the rural communities and country parks will be drastically compromised.

You can view and sign the petition here. Deadline for signing is at 11.59pm this Saturday.
