April 25 – Katrina Lowe, winner of the 2016 Around DB & Life on Lantau Young Writers Competition, graciously received her award for her briliant story “All In” at a ceremony held in Epicland, DB North Plaza.

Her piece, a short fictional narrative set some time in the near future, is a commentary on the perils of overreliance on technology. It will be featured in the forthcoming editions of Around DB and Life on Lantau, along with an article on the competition’s finalists.

The prolific 14-year-old from Discovery College was accompanied by her parents and younger sister.

She was joined by co-finalists Ryan Harling of YMCA, and two-time finalist Maria Andreeva of DBIS, as well as runners-up Alix Leonard of DC, Marcus Cheng of WIS, and Xander Ito-Low of YMCA.

This year’s competition asked entrants to highlight a particular community issue or grave social concern. The top entries tackled such matters as protecting heritage, environmental awareness, teenage addiction, and spectrum disorder.
