In less than two weeks, DB kids and teens, aged six to 14, will be competing in the Lantau Buffalos 5K Run.
The race, which takes place in DB, allows for a wide pool of both children and adults to take part. Kids aged six to seven run a two-kilometre distance, while eight to 14-year-olds and parent-and-child teams run five-kilometres.
After a successful first edition in May last year, the 2018 run is being held later this month on April 21.
According to Javier Falcon, race director, Lantau Buffalos, the club is excited for all the children who will be taking part this year.
“We expect kids to get out of their comfort zone during the run, but [we also expect] to see a lot of smiles when they get their medals at the finish and receive prizes at the awards ceremony at Bayside Dental. For many, this run is their first-ever participation in a race, [something that can be] emotional for both the children and their parents.”
The event also wouldn’t be possible without the support of all those who willingly donate their time and effort to ensure that the club can instil a love for sport in local children.
This year’s race proceeds will be donated to Plastic Free Seas (PFS).
The multi-sports club feels strongly about the plastic crisis facing our seas. “Being a DB-based non-profit, it is only natural that we donate the proceeds of the event to PFS,” Javier says.
Registration to the Lantau Buffalos 5K Run is open until 10pm on April 18. Children born between April 21, 2003 and April 21, 2012 are eligible to participate.
