JK Group issue ‘solemn proclamation’ in response to ‘defamatory’ statements

Owners of Garden Plus and Garden Cafe JK Group have shared a ‘solemn proclamation’ online to counter statements made on social media regarding its plans to develop a caravan site in Pui O.

The online document presents visual plans for the application and proposed construction site, making it clear that the areas involved are not wetland.

The document states that “[The] application site is situated at Formed/Agricultural land but NOT in Wetlands and is in Pui O NOT Ham Tin.”

The statement goes on to say that the development would be environmentally beneficial to the area, involving the clearing of an area which currently exists as a dumping site for scrap metal.

“Greening 85% of 50,000 sq.ft land which is now covered with scrap metal and waste material is an environmental movement,” the statement read. “We are doing the right thing to the countryside.”

The development group maintains that the purpose of the application is to “convert the existing brownfield into a green zone, enhancing the management of land.” It states that this will enable the “promotion of family activities” and will “educate the youth of green activity”, providing “a gathering place for the community, to increase the local occupation rate and promote the local economy.”

Information shared online and on social media that the group claims is “wrong and misleading” includes photos of wetland “beyond the application site.” JK Group states that if such messages are not supported by evidence or withdrawn with an apology, they constitute “defamation, misrepresentation and commercial attack,” and the group will take legal action and claim for “the loss involved.”
