The Central office of sham law firm, Lam, Fung & Lee Solicitors was raided by police on Monday after the firm and its partners were found to be unregistered under the Law Society of Hong Kong.
According to the SCMP, the alarm was raised after a woman was allegedly scammed and lost over HK$880,000. The woman was referred to the firm by a broker who was helping her obtain a loan.
After transferring the funds, she visited the office to find it closed and locked. Suspicious, she then notified the police.
Police obtained a court warrant and broke into the company’s Central office where they managed to seize documents. According to the firm’s website, they also have offices in Tuen Mun, Kwai Chung and Sha Tin, none of which are valid addresses.
A security guard at the Central office has reportedly claimed that the office space was only leased to the firm last month.
Arrests have yet to be made as police continue searching for the perpetrators, fearing that there could be more victims involved.
