The Hong Kong Observatory has released an incredible new image of Typhoon Nida.

The storm, which passed to the northeast of Hong Kong on the morning of August 1, brought the city to a halt as the T8 signal remained in force for 16 hours.

The new image shows the sheer scale of the typhoon as it approached the coast of Guangdong. According to the Observatory, at that time, “the size of Nida’s eye was even bigger than that of Hong Kong.”

At least 12 people were injured as a result of the storm, however Hong Kong’s well-planned mitigation measures ensured that the city escaped any major damage.
