South Lantau residents passing along Pui O can now enjoy Bui O Public School’s new Lantau-themed mural, designed as part of the school’s Visual Arts Day.

The mural, conceptualised and painted by Japanese street artist TA KA, captures the nature of Pui O through a water buffalo and egret, which are among the animals that populate the wetland located behind the school. Promoting the importance of biodiversity, the mural also features imagery of local fauna and other wildlife.

The three-storey mural, sponsored by Mavericks and Café Isara, was commissioned by Bui O Public School’s art teacher Sum-Sum Tse, who worked with Maria Wong and Jason Dempski of HKwalls’ Arts for Action Programme. This is the second time the school has collaborated with HKwalls.

Through Bui O Public School’s Visual Arts day, students were encouraged to take pride in their work, as well as discover and develop skills in new artistic disciplines through a series of workshops.

This included workshops in graphic illustration with Angela Ho, marble paper making with Sum-Sum Tse, marker pen design techniques with Takamitsu Takagaito (aka Taka), photography with Daniel Murray, special effects make-up application with Pui Pui Foss-Cole, and stencil and spray paint techniques with Jay Foss-Cole.
