Hiker dies after falling down cliff on Lantau

A hiker has died after falling down a cliff near Ngong Ping on Lantau earlier this week.

The Fire Services Department received a call for help at around midday on Monday (January 30) and immediately contacted the Government Flying Service for assistance.

When emergency workers reached the 59-year-old man they found him unconscious and he was declared dead at the scene.

Weather conditions in the area deteriorated at around the time of the accident, with reports of fog and rain, however it is unclear whether this was a contributing factor.
