Elderly hiker missing in South Lantau dies

A 67-year-old woman who went missing in South Lantau on April 29 has died, Hong Kong Police confirmed with Around DB.

Police say the Fire Services Department and Government Flying Service jointly mounted a search and rescue operation after receiving a report at about 7pm on April 28 that a woman had gone missing after she was last seen at Sunset Peak that same morning. Initial police report say the woman was 64.

“The  67-year-old woman was found on April 29 in an unconscious with multiple injuries on her body by Firemen at Tsing Lung Stream. She was certified dead in Eastern Hospital later,” said a police spokesperson in an email.

“Initial investigation showed that the woman was suspected of having slipped down to a stream accidentally while the cause of death would be ascertained by an autopsy,” the spokesperson added.
