Police and marine mammal experts were called to Palm Beach on Lantau this morning, October 26, after receiving a report of a porpoise that had been washed up on the shore.
The carcass was discovered by Lantau resident Karen Wong at around 8am. Karen told Life on Lantau and Around DB that the scene was extremely sad and noted that the dolphin had been bleeding from its eyes.
In a statement this afternoon, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said that it had sent a representative to the scene, and that it is working closely with experts from Ocean Park to determine the cause of death.
The AFCD advised that it receives around 20 to 30 notifications of this kind per year.
