Dead porpoise found in Discovery Bay

Posted in : News on by : Around DB Comments: 0

The body of a female finless porpoise was found floating in the waters off Tai Pak Wan on Sunday, the latest in a string of mammals and large fish to have been found dead in Hong Kong waters in the last week.

The 155 centimetre-long porpoise, which was reportedly badly decomposed, was sent to Ocean Park for an autopsy.

The discovery comes just days after the bodies of three Chinese white dolphins and two small sharks were retrieved from beaches and waters near Tuen Mun, Lantau and Lamma.

According to the Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society (HKDCS), the finless porpoise faces threats to its habitat from fishing nets, vessel strikes, coastal development and water pollution.
