People from across DB came together to join Marina residents yesterday, Sunday September 9, to stage a peaceful protest against the closure of the Marina Club.
Wearing white t-shirts, hundreds of DBers walked from the Marina to DB North Plaza to highlight the situation boat owners and residents have found themselves in since being given notice on August 31 that the club would close on December 31.
One seven-year pleasure vessel owner, who did not wish to be named, told Around DB: “The white shirt walk came about as a means for Marina members to get to the North Plaza Community Hall for an information meeting. We were expecting around 200 participants, however, word got out, which resulted in supporters swelling the numbers to over 1,000. It was great to see all the families, helpers and even white-shirted pets in full support. It was a heartwarming experience for my family and I.
“I look forward to hearing from the club regarding the question as to the current members’ right of return after the renovations.”
Yesterday’s meeting at the Community Hall was held to share information among affected members as to the situation and future options available to Marina members.
Around DB will provide updates as the situation progresses.
