Good news for DBers! A new scheme, set to come into effect from October 2017, will offer an array of tailor-made residents’ privileges, including discounted ferry and bus fares, when using registered Octopus cards.
The initiative, funded by Hong Kong Resort Company Limited (HKR) and jointly developed with Octopus Cards Limited, is available to all residents including owners, tenants and occupants (including domestic helpers).
The scheme will remove the need for residents to use pre-loaded T Cards to enjoy discounted ferry travel, and will also offer additional benefits, such as discounts on ferry-bus interchanges (on internal bus routes only).
The number of cards that can be registered for any one household will depend on the number of bedrooms in the property. One-bed properties will be eligible to register two Octopus cards, two-bed properties four, three-bed properties six etc.
In order to register for the scheme, residents simply need to complete the “Application Form for Registration of DB Resident’s Octopus Card” that has been distributed to mailboxes across DB, and return it to the City Management Office behind Fusion, or their local village management office.
Alternatively, residents can register at the temporary service counters that will be set up at each village, according to the schedule below:
Registration is open now, and can be done at any point, so there’s no need to worry if you’re currently out of town – there’s plenty of time to register in order to ensure that you can enjoy the benefits of the scheme from day one.
Further information about the scheme will be announced in September, including details of a proposed shop discount initiative. While this is still in its early stages, Around DB understands that HKR has approached a number of shop tenants to invite them to take part in the new discount scheme.
