DB ferry fares to rise this weekend

Ferry fares to and from Discovery Bay are set to increase this weekend, with a new charging structure coming into effect on June 10, 2018.

Under the new rates, the cost of a standard ticket on the DB-Central ferry will rise by 15% from HK$40 to HK$46. Child fares will increase from HK$20 to HK$23.

Ticket prices for those holding a DB Resident’s Octopus Card will increase by 4.7%, with adult fares costing HK$33.50, up HK$1.50 from the current HK$32, and child fares costing HK$16.80, an increase of HK$0.80.

Transport Cards (T-Cards) will still still be in use, with adult fares rising to 43.5 points, from the current 37.8 points, and child fares costing 21.8 points, from the current 18.9  points.

The overnight surcharge on a DB Resident’s Octopus will be an additional HK$17, HK$19.5 on a non-resident’s Octopus and 22.9 to 23 points for those using a T-Card.

There will be no price change seniors or persons with disabilities under the government’s fare concession scheme. Weekend and public holiday fare concessions for domestic workers will also be maintained.

In a statement issued by DB Transport, the last price adjustment was implemented in 2014/ 2015, however despite this, the route has continued to record substantial losses due to a decline in patronage and an increase in overall operating costs such as fuel and labour costs as well as repair and maintenance expenses.

The statement also said that DB Transport is committed to ensuring passenger safety and will aim to continue to provide quality and efficient ferry services to and from Central for DB residents.

Seriously! And they justify it how? To pay for the tacky CNY, Christmas and valentines day decorations that no one needs and that are a sore in the eye, or the obscure never ending renovation works on the main plaza. I can’t believe the greediness of the bloody monopolist family that owns the pace!
