Six cyclists were injured on Cheung Tung Road, North Lantau, on Sunday after riding over large cracks in the road surface.

The incident happened on a stretch of road that links to the new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge. The Standard reported that the cyclists suffered head, back, hand and leg injuries and quoted Hong Kong Cycling Alliance chairman Martin Turner as saying that the crack was covered with “a soft sponge of some kind that was disguised to look like smooth road.”

The injured cyclists were taken to North Lantau Hospital for treatment and the Highways Department took steps to repair the road on Sunday morning.

Have you spotted any issues with the condition of the road surface near the bridge works? Send us your thoughts to [email protected].
