A crash where a truck carrying construction machinery rolled on Tung Chung Road this week was evidence of the need for road safety controls on Lantau roads, according to local resident Loy Ho.
Ms Ho, a member of Lantau Buffalo Association, is one of the organisers of a resident’s meeting in Mui Wo tomorrow (December 19) at 3pm outside China Bear.
The meeting, which is being organised in conjunction with the Save Lantau Alliance, comes after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced a proposal to relax South Lantau traffic regulations earlier this month.
Ms Ho said the incident on Tuesday in which a truck carrying construction machinery rolled was an illustration that Lantau needed special traffic measures.
“This will continue if Lantau opens up,” she said.
“People believe Tung Chung Road can handle more vehicles on it, but it’s not wide enough.”
Ms Ho said the group was also planning to march from Pier 6 to the Government buildings in Admiralty on December 20 from 3.15pm.
