Having made their debut at Picnic in the Park earlier this year, Jaded is set to return to the stage at The BIG Picnic on Saturday November 5 for another energetic set.
Ask the band what they love most about playing for the DB community and it’s all about the experience. “We’ve played for lots of people before,” says singer Adam, “but realistically the count has never exceeded 50 to 100.” So it’s even more exciting therefore that, this year, they’ve been invited to play at a peak time slot.
Made up of four schoolmates, the band started out in 2013 playing spontaneous jam sessions, in the hope of eventually busking on the streets of Hong Kong. Their set playlist at the time covered a range of music, from The Beatles to more contemporary bands like Fun., all played out on the keyboard and acoustic guitar. Soon enough, their sound progressed, and they began covering heavier tracks from the likes of Green Day, Blink 182 and Nirvana. “Before long, busking was no longer the focus any more,” says Adam. “One thing led to another and here we are now, with several of our own songs, soon to be released as our first album later this year.”
At first the band had reservations about how the DB community would react to them. “We were worried because punk/ grunge rock isn’t your typical go-to genre, so it was hard to say how the people would respond”. But after their first gig at PiP, they realised that people in DB just really love music, though they don’t see any mosh pits starting any time soon!
You can catch Jaded at The BIG Picnic on November 5 at 5.15pm on the Plaza stage, where they will be playing a mix of both covers and original tracks.
