Hong Kong’s flagship carrier Cathay Pacific has dropped to 4th place in Skytrax’s annual World Airline Awards.
The international air transport rating organisation awarded Cathay Airline of the Year in 2014. The airline was placed third in 2015, with Qatar Airways taking the lead. Emirates was named the world’s best airline this year.
The award is voted for by travelers from all over the world via an airline passenger satisfaction survey. Despite dropping in the overall rankings this year, Cathay was voted the world’s best airline for the cleanliness of their aircraft cabins. Passengers graded the standards and quality of cleanliness in the cabin in terms of seat areas, tables, cabin panels and washrooms.
In a recent statement the airline’s Chief Executive, Ivan Chu, said that the airline’s “performance over the first six months of 2016 has been below expectations.”
