Cathay Pacific considering more seats in economy class

Think flying economy, especially on a long-haul flight, is already bad enough? Sorry, but it could be getting worse.

The South China Morning Post reports that Cathay Pacific is considering putting up to 17 more seats in economy or coach class on some of its flights.

The extra seats could become a feature of Boeing 777s, according to Cathay Pacific, which says it would be able to offer better food and free Wi-fi.

The South China Morning Post reports nearly 70 per cent of 777 operators have opted for the high density economy layout, which sees 10 seats across instead of nine.

However, Cathay still offers more space than some of its competitors. “Seat pitch”, the space between your seat and the one in front is 81 cms and seat width is 47 cms.

Budget airline HK Express will only offer 71cms of seat pitch on its new plane next year.
