Cathay Dragon flight makes emergency landing in Hong Kong due to suspected engine fire

A Cathay Dragon flight en route from Hong Kong to Phuket was forced to turn around shortly after take off on Tuesday due to an incident with one of its engines.

Flight KA212 took off from Hong Kong International Airport at around 8:40am with 148 passengers on board. At approximately 9am a “temperature anomaly” was detected in the left engine and the pilot decided to turn the plane around.

According to Apple Daily, one of the stewardesses on board the Airbus A321-200 wrote on her Facebook page that she heard banging sounds twice and felt the plane shudder. She said that the pilot then made the decision to turn off the left engine.

The aircraft landed safely in Hong Kong at 9.56am. No one on board was injured. Cathay Dragon has apologized to passengers affected by the incident.
