Hilary St John Bower, a 60-year-old HK resident and British national, is believed to have crossed the border into China via Lo Wu Control Point on March 22 on his way to visit his girlfriend and six-year-old son.But since then, he has gone missing.
His disappearance has sparked a global law enforcement alert. Friends and family believe that his disappearance could be linked to a HK$9 million property that he was about to sell in mainland China. A friend of Bower’s, Richard Charles, told the SCMP, “[Hilary] was on his way to see his son. There was no reason for him to disappear.”
The case is classified as that of a “missing person” and an investigation by the Regional Missing Persons Unit of Kowloon West is underway. British diplomats in Hong Kong and Guangzhou are working on the case, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London is collaborating with local authorities.
