Discovery Bay bus driver Ah Foon has issued a statement regarding a crowdfunding link that was created earlier this week by a local resident; he is refusing to accept any money that has been raised for his sake. The funds were being raised as a response to Foon’s assault whilst on the job earlier this month.
The page, titled “show your support and appreciation for Discovery Bay Transport worker Foon,” mentions a video that depicts Foon being verbally and physically harassed by two ladies. Several videos were circulated on social media of the incident. One showed Foon in his cabin on the bus, and another up against its side, all the while not retaliating against the ladies.
Upon discovering the initiative through colleagues, Foon released the following statement: “I am very grateful and touched by the kindness of DB residents who have initiated a donation to help me. However, I will not accept the money because I have a job to earn a living to sustain my family. Some people are in a more difficult situation than mine and I opine that the money should go to the charities to help those needy in the society.
“Thank you once again for the care and support from the DB residents which will stay in my heart forever. I would like to reiterate it’s my pleasure and honor to serve the DB residents and wish everyone a happy new year!”
Foon had already written a letter soon after the ordeal, thanking the Discovery Bay community and the Hong Kong public as a whole for their support, as he had initially hoped to not be burden to anyone and believed no-one would take his case seriously.
