WHERE TO FIND THE BEST MID-AUTUMN CELEBRATIONS IN HONG KONG?

Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month each year, Mid-Autumn Festival is a big deal all over Hong Kong, coinciding with the full harvest moon. This year’s festival falls on September 13 and whether it’s your first time celebrating or an event your family regularly enjoys, there’s a whole lot of fun to be had.

Of course you can stay in DB and you will have a great celebration with mooncakes, lanterns and fire dragons. But if you want to experience the Mid-Autumn celebrations in Hong Kong, then you will be spoilt with choice all over the city.

CAUSEWAY BAY, TAI HANG

The most popular fire dragon dance in Hong Kong is in Tai Hang, Causeway Bay. It’s a three day celebration with hundreds of performers, thousands of incense sticks and a huge dragon. The festivities start today (Sept 12 at 8.15pm) and will end on Sept 14 at night, along Lily Street, Ormsby Street to Tung Lo Wan Road (Best vantage point @ Wun Sha Street)

HK CULTURAL CENTRE PIAZZA, TST

There will be special lighting effects and inflatable sculptures. This modern installation will project the moon with special lighting effects whilst vaporisers create mist over pools to add even more atmosphere.  6.30pm to 11pm (tonight, until midnight), until Sept 22.

POK FU LAM VILLAGE FIRE DRAGON DANCE

Catch a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Pok Fu Lam with fiery dragons dancing from the village to the sea for a ritualistic ‘return to the sea’ ceremony. From 6.30pm until 11.45pm, the entrance is Pok Fu Lam Village (Best vantage point: entrance of Pok Fu Lam Village)

URBAN MID-AUTUMN LANTERN CARNIVAL

At the heart of the City, in Victoria Park, you will find one of the largest lantern festivals in Hong Kong. You will see incredible lanterns on display. From 6.30pm until 11.30pm everyday until Sept 15. Lots of live performances will entertain you for free.
