37-year-old man killed in crash on North Lantau Highway

Police are investigating an incident that happened on the North Lantau Highway on Sunday, in which a 37-year-old tow-truck driver was killed.

The man, surnamed Kwok, had been called to assist a broken-down car when he was struck by a Medium Goods Vehicle (MGV). The MGV reportedly hit Kwok as he was loading the car onto his truck, pushing the tow truck and the car along the carriageway, before coming to a halt. The accident happened at around 12.50am on the Hong Kong-bound carriageway.

Kwok was rushed to North Lantau Hospital with serious head injuries, however was certified dead at 1.30am.The 45-year-old driver of the MGV was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident lead to the closure of the Highway, causing tailbacks. A second accident reportedly occurred as a result of the congestion causing two people to require hospital treatment.
