Ghost Nets removal at Pui O

26 May 2018
Hong Kong

The South Lantau Paddle Club (SLPC) invites dragonboat enthusiasts, outrigger paddlers, and everyone who cares about marine environment to help remove ghost nets at Pui O beach. Dragonboats, outriggers, and kayaks will be available. Speed boat support will be provided by Sea Shepherd.

Ghost nets are fishing nets that have been abandoned or lost in the ocean. These nets, often nearly invisible in the dim light, can entangle fish, dolphins, sea turtles and other creatures, including the occasional human diver. The nets restrict movement causing starvation, laceration, infection and suffocation.

Event briefing starts at 10:30 am at the car park near Treasure Island. To end the event, there will be a barbecue hosted by SLPC. For more details, visit the South Lantau Paddle Club Facebook page. To RSVP, contact [email protected].
