Lantau residents complete North Pole Marathon!
- Written by arounddb, 11 May 2017
Congratulations to Tung Chung resident Elina Mäkilammi and her husband Diarmuid O’Shea who ran the FWD North Pole Marathon 2017 last month, in support of the 350 global climate movement.
The marathon, held on April 8, was held at Camp Barneo, a Russian temporary ice base. 54 racers from across the world came together to take on the incredible challenge in sub-zero temperatures ranging from -40°C to 31°C. The race kicked off at 10.30pm, and went on though the night - the sun does not go down at the North Pole at this time of year. Diarmuid finished the race in 6 hours and 5 minutes, while Elina completed the course in 7 hours and 51 minutes.
Elina and Diarmuid ran the race in support of environmental charity and global climate movement, 350, that unites the world to create a better future to fight climate change.

A big congratulations to Elina and Diarmuid!
