Hong Kong bans the import of Brazilian meat products

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has banned all imports of poultry, frozen and chilled meat from Brazil, effective immediately.

The announcement comes after accusations that food safety inspectors in the country accepted bribes to turn a blind eye to unsafe food practices, allowing the sale of rotten, contaminated and substandard products.

Apparently, five processing plants linked to the scandal were found to have supplied products to Hong Kong.

The CFS has advised the public to ensure meat products are cooked thoroughly before consumption.
