Hiker found dead on Lantau after getting lost on trail

Lantau Hong Kong

A 60-year-old man has been found dead on Lantau after getting lost whilst hiking alone.

The man left his home in Sham Shui Po at around 9am on Tuesday morning, heading for Lantau's trails. He called his family at 6.30pm to say that he was lost and felt dizzy.

A rescue operation was launched with workers searching through the night to find him. His body was found the following morning and airlifted to Eastern Hospital.

The sad case has prompted reminders that inexperienced hikers should avoid hiking alone and that those taking to the trails should plan ahead to familiarise themselves with the route.
